One word: Photography.
My favourite activity when on holiday is taking pictures, no less so then during our extended staycation in Victoria, a five-week adventure that will end this coming weekend. Home feels good, but it’s been a blast in the meantime.
I blogged a few photo shoots here. There are too many more to include in one blog as I have had almost daily outings. I include below just four galleries for your viewing pleasure. Use the slideshow4feature. It makes for a lovely presentation.
Lavender love

Feeling stressed or burned out? Tired of volatile geopolitics, fearful of the next Space-X explosion, worried about the faltering Blue Jays pitching rotation. Well these images from the Bilston Creek Lavender Farm will calm even the most frazzled nerves, even in the idle of an insomniac night. Give it a try.
Up, up and away

One lifetime sadness is that given my legal blindness I can never drive a car; worse still, fly a plane. I love to fly, everything from Dreamliners to Cesanas. While in the north I enjoyed one brief helicopter ride but will never attempt parasailing. I recently met a real live bush pilot; his stories were marvellous, even swashbuckling. My visit to the BC Aviation Museum at Victoria’s Pat Bay airport was so much fun. The technology of flight has evolved so quickly in recent centuries. Planes in hangers make such great photo subjects, not without a few challenges, however.
On the waterfront

One of the most visited harbours in North America is Victoria’s inner harbour. Its size, shape, history, floral displays, mooring of all kinds of boats, and a lively tourist trade make it a great place to photograph. Though my timing was poor for the Empress Hotel frontage there were other well-lit points of interest.
On the street

Folks find this hard to believe given my rather extroverted personality, but I am actually quite shy. Street photography, which requires me to come close to subjects in their various activities requires determination and a crowd. Go here to see my attempt to capture the mood on Victoria’s famed Government Street.
