[Ken Gray] Many have found the spiritual discipline of pilgrimage helpful as a way to integrate physical exercise with respect for creation and as a way to advocate for a healthy world. In other posts I have focused on these themes, not less so than when advertising a forthcoming pilgrimage this coming September.
Just this morning I was delighted to stumble across the cycling pilgrimage from Montreal to Ottawa described below which occurred just a few days ago. Well done cycling friends. If you have pictures from the Ottawa event please contact me for addition to this blog in due course.
[James Morgan] Concerned cyclists were pedalling the nearly 200-kilometre trip from Montréal to Ottawa on Saturday, May 10, and Sunday, May 11 as part of the ecumenical Pilgrimage for the Planet organized by the Eastern Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC). The pilgrimage also has participants from Catholic, United, Anglican, Wesleyan, and Quaker congregations.

The participants followed local roads and from Rigaud, they entered Ontario near St-Eugene and spent Saturday night in Vankleek Hill.
Participants are attempting to raise awareness of climate and other ecological issues within a Christian social justice context. The pilgrimage culminated in Ottawa with a demonstration on Parliament Hill on Monday, May 12.

Participants want the federal government to sign the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty, which would prohibit Canada from further developing the fossil fuel industry.
