Journeying with Juno — AKA Holiday photo diary 2025

Just days into our 2025 holiday adventure, taking us to Victoria and other up-island destinations, with a brief side trip to Vancouver, the camera is once again out of its bag. In what will likely be the first of a few blogs I am pleased to share some images with you my loyal readers. No politics or global disasters (of all sorts and conditions) for today at least.

Enjoy the galleries and use the slideshow arrow key. I think it’s worth your time, hopefully adding to your pleasure.

Chasing the beaver – How Canadian is that?

A favourite site for swimmers, sunbathers, rowers, and hikers, Beaver  Lake, part of Elk/Beaver Lake Provincial Park a half hour from downtown Victoria, is a favourite outdoor destination for both dogs and humans. Following a wet spring the green colours are as varied and vivid as I can remember. Quite a change from the dry interior landscape of Summerland where we live and recreate.

The Point of today is about Power

Metchosin’s Tower Point Park resonates deeply with Kathie and me. We spent many days and evenings there during our Colwood years, running our dogs and taking all sorts of pictures. We even met and purchased our Australian Shepherd, Marley on this very beach. A companion to Whitty’s Lagoon park visitors will find beautiful seascapes, wildflowers, sand, and sunshine at least right now during our extended Victoria vacation.

Eager Beaver

Two destinations today. First a bike ride over to Mattick’s Farm, an historic place of trains, nine-hole par three golf, and ice cream. It’s now gone upscale to serve the needs of well healed women. I forgot to change my focus settings so wrecked a few images at the start. A return later to the plant nursery was worthwhile as was lunch. Later this afternoon we returned to a different section of Beaver Lake. Pleased to see rowers rowing, memories of Hannah’s time training on this lakeside paradise.

Given the change in weather, in fact a return to seasonable norms, our environment here on the island shifts from early summer sunshine to westcoast rainforest damp. No wonder everything is so green here.

That said, and thinking of home, check out this summer forecast for the BC interior and for Kamloops and Kelowna and all parts of the South Okanagan. Yikes.

More to come . . .
