Not your typical Sunday sermon, but one that should be preached, everywhere

Natalie Kyriacou | “How Will History Judge Us?” | Democracy, Climate & the Future

Australian author and environmentalist Natalie Kyriacou delivers a powerful and deeply provocative address at the Reclaiming Democracy Together launch event. Opening with the question, “How do you think we will be written about in history books?”, Natalie reflects on the contradictions of modern society — from climate inaction and political disengagement to social media, inequality, corporate power, and environmental collapse.

With sharp humour and urgency, she explores what future generations may think of a civilization that possessed unprecedented knowledge, technology, and wealth — yet struggled to collectively act on the crises threatening its own future. The speech touches on:

• Climate change and ecological collapse

• Democracy and civic disengagement • Social media and attention economies

• Wealth inequality and political power

• Human behaviour, technology, and modern culture

• Hope, responsibility, and collective action

Recorded live at Melbourne Town Hall as part of Reclaiming Democracy Together — a long-term civic initiative exploring how democratic life can be renewed through dialogue, participation, education, and collective action.
