This is such a good news story — Well done Summerland Health Care Auxiliary

Summerland Health Care Auxiliary has raised $1M for a new medical hub in town through the South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation.

Planned for 13201 Victoria Road North, the Summerland Health Care Auxiliary Medical Clinic’s goal is primary care, supporting physician recruitment and retention, and connecting more residents with ongoing medical care.

The Auxiliary’s gift will go right towards construction and renovations, and the purchase of medical equipment, furnishing and other necessities to get up and running.

“This gift reflects the extraordinary commitment Summerland residents have to one another,” said Ian Lindsay, CEO of the SOS Medical Foundation, in a press release issued this week.

“The Auxiliary’s volunteers and supporters have spent years turning everyday generosity into a remarkable investment in local healthcare. Their gift brings the vision for this clinic an important step closer.”

The Auxiliary runs through donated items, purchases and volunteer hours.

“This gift was made possible by our volunteers and by the people of Summerland who donate and shop at our Thrift Store,” said Kathy Hogman, president of the Summerland Health Care Auxiliary.

“We are incredibly proud that their support will now help strengthen healthcare here at home.”

The project is inspired by the Colleen Schneider Medical Centre in Penticton, which is another primary care initiative supported by the SOS Medical Foundation.

Its family practice has recorded 41,195 appointments, and 2,912 increased patient attachments as of June 23, 2026.

“The Colleen Schneider Medical Centre showed us what community investment in primary care can accomplish,” Lindsay said.

“Now we have an opportunity to build on that success in Summerland, helping create the space needed to attract healthcare providers, connect more people with primary care and strengthen healthcare for years to come.”

Community members interested in bringing the Summerland project to life can make a donation to the SOS Medical Foundation
