Gratitude

We went into Summerland today to visit the Evacuees Resource Centre set up on the top floor of the George Ryga Arts and Cultural Centre. Everyone was very nice and helpful. Then we went downstairs where the Summerland Community Arts Council has a lovely little arts and crafts area for the kids – or anyone who needs a little calming downtime.

Then we went to Sunflower Ukrainian Cafe Summerland and purchased some fresh #cabbagerolls and #pierogi to take home. In front of Giant’s Head Brewing someone was washing sidewalk umbrellas. I saw that Summerland Optometry is open. Then we went to Nesters Market and picked up some essentials. All the Nester’s staff were there, busy cleaning and re-stocking shelves.

Back at home we ate our pierogies and cabbage rolls (delicious!) and listened to the amazing Canadair firefighting planes https://dehavilland.com/de-havilland-canadair-515/ roar over our house as they climbed to altitude after scooping water from #Okanagan lake, headed to the #BaldRange#wildfire, now near Shingle Creek and environs.

The timing of this fire could not have been worse for our local and nearby businesses, at the height of tourist season. This is devastating. Those of us who are able need to step up and fight back.

Tonight we will again toast with some #Bottleneckdrive selections. And we will continue to support Summerland businesses and cultural organizations as they re-open. #summerlandstrong
