Simple disciplines for healthy living

These are five things humans have done for generations that modern life has quietly pushed aside. The wonderful thing? They’re completely free.

Memorise something. Give your brain a workout instead of outsourcing everything to your phone.

Sing. It doesn’t matter if you’re in tune. Singing boosts mood, lowers stress and lights up multiple areas of the brain.

Sit on the floor. It helps maintain strength, balance, mobility and independence as we age.

Look into the distance. Give your eyes a break from screens, soak up some daylight and let your mind wander for a moment.

Walk without headphones. Not every second needs filling with noise. Some of our best ideas, clearest thinking and emotional processing happen in the quiet.

None of these cost a penny. None require a prescription. But together, they may do your brain and body a world of good.
